The Gilbertine Academy, a ministry of The Gilbertine Institute, is a classical Catholic school that honours the theological order of the domestic Church by upholding parents as the primary educators of their children. The school provides a rich academic and spiritual environment, fostering both intellectual formation and moral virtue within the Catholic tradition. The Humanities teacher will teach a grade 9/10 class and a grade 11/12 class, and will lead students through the great conversation of history, literature, and culture at the high school level. This role calls for a teacher who understands humanities as the formation of the person—cultivating wisdom, judgment, and a deep encounter with the Western tradition in light of our Catholic intellectual heritage.
Duties and Responsibilities
Teach integrated humanities courses including history, literature, and cultural studies
Lead students through primary texts and historical narratives with depth and clarity
Foster thoughtful discussion, strong writing, and intellectual engagement
Encourage connections between historical truth, moral formation, and present reality
Assess student learning through writing, discussion, and projects
Maintain a structured and respectful classroom environment
Collaborate with faculty in developing a cohesive programme
Participate in school liturgies, prayer, and community life
Qualifications & Personal Qualities
Bachelor’s degree in Education, Humanities, History, English, or related field
Experience teaching high school humanities or similar subjects
Strong background in Western civilization and classical texts preferred
Practicing Catholic in good standing, willing to take an Oath of Fidelity to the Magisterium of the Catholic Church
Love for truth, goodness, and beauty as expressed in the humanities
Strong communication and discussion facilitation skills
Ability to work collaboratively within a small, mission-driven faculty
Proficient with digital tools such as Google Suite/Classroom, Microsoft Office, and capable of learning new systems
Professional, dependable, adaptable, and collaborative
Working Conditions
