The Gilbertine Institute is hiring an instructor to teach high school Chemistry and Biology. Familiarity with both the Alberta Program of Studies, Curriculum resources, and home schooling is essential.

Tasks include:

  • Delivering the learner outcomes of the Alberta Programs of Study;

  • Regular and timely assessment of student learning;

  • Participation in Mass and daily prayers

  • Supervision duties

  • Periodic labs

A successful applicant must:

  • be a practicing Catholic, taking an Oath of Fidelity to the Magisterium of the Catholic Church;

  • be willing to teach small classes in a traditional Catholic environment and participate at Mass with the school community each day;

  • profoundly value the parents as the primary educators of their child, and respect parental choice in education;

  • implement aspects of the classical education tradition as is organically possible;

  • have a Bachelor of Science (minimum) and be familiar with the Alberta Science program of studies.

  • possess excellent verbal and written communication skills;

  • Lab experience and knowledge of laboratory techniques and safety

  • be willing to work collaboratively with parents, students, staff, and administration;

  • become familiar with the websites of the Gilbertine Institute, Holy House, Gilbertine Academy and WISDOM Home Schooling as well as the Prospectus;

  • be familiar with a variety of traditional home education curricula and resources;

  • be comfortable working with electronic platforms, and capable of learning new platforms, including but not limited to, Google Suite/Classrooms, Microsoft Suite, Zoom, Solaro;

Depending upon the expertise and availability of applicants, The Gilbertine Institute is open to hiring full-time or part-time teachers.

Certificated staff are not required to be members of the ATA, but remuneration will be commensurate with the standard grid in Alberta, based upon years of experience and years of education. Staff participate in a group benefit plan.

The Gilbertine Institute encourages candidates to apply immediately, as the need for orientation and preparatory work merits hiring qualified personnel as early as Summer 2026 for an in-service orientation in August. Teaching to commence September, 2026.
