Position: Part-Time Beginner Homeroom Teacher or Instructor

For Holy House Edmonton, the Gilbertine Institute is hiring a part time Beginner (Gr. 3⁄4) homeroom teacher. This position demands expertise in the following areas: English Literature, Literacy, Grammar and Composition, and History. Experience in Catholic, classical, and home education are advantageous, as well as knowledge of and involvement in the English (Ordinariate) parochial tradition.
Tasks include:
Teaching, Assessment, Discipline
Monitoring students during breaks
Participation in Mass and daily prayers
Professional development
Literacy testing (CC3, LeNs, PAST)
Collaboration with Grade partner
A successful applicant must:
be a practicing Catholic, taking an Oath of Fidelity to the Magisterium of the Catholic Church;
be willing to teach small classes in a traditional Catholic environment and participate at Mass and regular daily prayers with the school community each day;
profoundly value the parents as the primary educators of their child, and respect parental choice in education;
implement aspects of the classical education tradition;
integrate class content as much as possible with other subject areas, and in particular
with the Catholic faith and virtue;
have experience teaching students of a variety of age levels and abilities in grades 3-9;
possess excellent verbal and written communication skills;
be willing to work collaboratively with parents, students, staff, and administration;
become familiar with the Prospectus as well as the websites of the Gilbertine Institute, Holy House, and the Gilbertine Academy;
have the ability to work with diverse resources in order to effectively help students learn the rigorous content of the Holy House curriculum and, when applicable, the Alberta Programs of Study;
be comfortable working with electronic platforms, and capable of learning new platforms, including but not limited to, Google Suite/Classrooms, Microsoft Suite, and Zoom;
Certificated staff are not required to be members of the ATA, but remuneration will be commensurate with the standard grid in Alberta, based upon years of experience and years of education. Staff who are at least 0.5 full time equivalent (FTE) participate in a group benefit plan.
