High School Latin Teacher – The Gilbertine Academy (Calgary Campus)

The Gilbertine Institute is hiring a high school Latin Teacher for our Calgary campus. This position involves part-time classroom teaching of higher-level Latin for grades 9–12 at The Gilbertine Academy (1423 - 8 Ave SE Calgary). 

Tasks include:

  • Teaching Latin to high school students using a classical Catholic approach, rooted in tradition and linguistic rigor;

  • Assisting parents in preparing students to satisfy the relevant Alberta Programs of Study;

  • Supporting classical curriculum integration, particularly within the humanities and Catholic intellectual tradition.

A successful applicant must:

  • Be a practicing Catholic, willing to take an Oath of Fidelity to the Magisterium of the Catholic Church;

  • Participate at daily Mass with the school community and contribute to the spiritual life of the school;

  • Deeply respect parental primacy in education and support individualized, classical home education approaches;

  • Implement aspects of the classical education tradition, with particular attention to Latin grammar, translation, Roman culture, and literature;

  • Have strong experience teaching Latin at the secondary level, ideally with a background in classical languages, the Trivium, or the Great Books;

  • Be confident using digital platforms such as Google Classroom & Zoom, with a willingness to learn new systems.

Additional assets include:

  • Experience with Independent schools;

  • Background in history, philosophy, or literature;

  • A passion for integrating Latin with Catholic culture and tradition.

Position details:
This role does not require a teaching certificate. Staff are not required to be members of the ATA. Compensation will follow the standard Alberta teaching grid and includes participation in a group benefit plan.
