Mediated Learning Advisor – WISDOM Home Schooling

  • Provide mediational family support to new and existing home educating families, handle related administrative tasks, gather and disseminate information, and prepare required reports. This job involves developing and presenting workshops, coaching parents with a variety of neuro-diverse students or the students themselves, and gathering and providing resources to parents. This is a work-from-home position with a varied number of hours per week, with occasional travel for meetings, conferences and workshops.

Home Education Facilitator – WISDOM Home Schooling

The Gilbertine Institute is seeking a home education facilitator to join the WISDOM Home Schooling division for the upcoming school year. A Facilitator is an Alberta-certificated teacher employed by the associate private school to conduct at least 2 evaluations of the progress of the home educated student in each school year, and offering important support and resources to home educating parents. At all times, the Facilitator’s services will be consistent with the Alberta Education Act, the Alberta Home Education Regulation, and all Gilbertine Institute administrative policies, procedures, and regulations.

Certificated staff are not required to be members of the ATA, but remuneration will be commensurate with the standard grid in Alberta, based upon years of experience and years of education. Staff participate in a group benefit plan.

The Gilbertine Institute encourages candidates to apply soon, as the need for orientation and preparatory work merits narrowing down qualified personnel before the contract commences in August. A mandatory 3-day staff Inservice will be held in Derwent in mid-August.

    • Offering continued encouragement, affirmation, pedagogical strategies, support, perspective, resources and evaluation to Assigned Families and Assigned Students as required and directed by the Principal;

    • maintaining current knowledge of Alberta Government legislation, regulation and policy regarding home education and helping Assigned Families in fulfilling their responsibilities;

    • assistance to Assigned Families in developing each child’s Education Program Plan and approving said plan;

    • organising an itinerary and travelling to meet with parents of Assigned Students to conduct at least 2 evaluations of the progress of the student in each school year and entering in the student record results of the evaluations conducted by the facilitator;

    • advising the student’s parents as to the progress of the student and making recommendations to the student’s parent on any matter that may assist the student in attaining a higher level of achievement, where necessary;

    • reviewing high school plans with parents and students and filing a high school planning report and assisting students in qualifying for high school credits and potentially obtaining an Alberta High School Diploma;

    • promoting home education and WISDOM programs;

    • annual submission and fulfilment of a Professional Growth Plan;

    • working as part of the home education team; and

    • supervision of an assistant(s) who may be contracted to assist with any of the above tasks that do not require a certificated teacher.
